Introduction:
The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Fran Zuvela.
Minutes from the previous meeting on November 7th were appoved as written.
Two visitors, Pedro Padilla (V.P.) and Luis Apen (Secretary) of the Hispanic Council were present at the meeting.
New Business
Pedro Padilla, Luis Apen: Pedro Padilla and Luis Aspen spoke to the council about the New Year's Eve Raffle. They have printed off 1500 tickets to sell. A minimum of 1200 tickets need to be sold. Members of the Hispanic Community have sold a lot of tickets to people outside of the St Martin Parish Community. If all the tickets are not sold by New Year's Eve, the raffle will be postponed until more tickets are sold.
Pedro and Luis have asked for the council's help in selling tickets outside of church after Mass on Sundays. Council members have agreed to help. Several council members have taken raffle tickets to sell to family /friends
Phuong Nguyen suggested that Fr Luat and the Vietnamese Council be contacted so the raffle tickets can be made available to them to purchase.
Fran Zuvela: It is time for an open meeting where everyone in the parish is invited to a council meeting. Monday, March 6th was chosen for this event. Notices will be put into the bulletin and announcements made from the pulpit.
We also need to brainstorm about our Five Year Plan for the parish. Two areas we need to focus on are how to get people to sign up for minstries and getting young adults involved.
Council members discussed how to:
1) get young adults interested in meeting and planning activities
2) perhaps another parish had a program and could help us jump
start/work with us to get a program in our parish
3) suggested age 18-25 or 20-45???
The decision was made that Fran Zuvela would call the diocese and see what other parish has a young adult group and also find out about resources to start a group and perhaps have someone from the diocese come to a meeting and talk with us.
A motion was made to amend the Bylaws, Article XII - Meetings to read "The PPC shall meet at least nine times a year at such times and places as may be designated by the President". This motion was passed by council members. The PPC shall hold meetings from September - May.
Old Business
Fr.Ben Manding: Fr Ben discussed the new Parish Pay system. He feels it would be a benefit for the parish as travelers/people who tend to forget envelopes on Sunday will be able to authorize a donation along with a second collection donation automatically. The amount of the donation can be edited as needed.
Reports
Diane Tyler: The Christmas season began at school last Thursday as we began our Novena of items for the needy of Sunnyvale and the areas. Each day the children bring specific items that are needed at this time of year. Thursday was books collected by the San Jose Mercury and Friday was a collection of layette items. The items collected this week will support Sunnyvale Community Services.
Our annual Christmas program will be held in the church this Friday at 7 PM. All are invited. There will be a dress rehearsal on Friday at 8:15 for anyone who can't make it in the evening..
The Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are beginning the awesome task of preparing for the Academic Decathlon which will be held at Mitty High School on March 4th.
Mark your calendars for February 4th, the annual Crab Feed is going to be better then ever! Lots of auction items and lots of crab and lots of fun.
Jim Bourey: A current financial report was presented to the council.
Lou Camero: Lou is working on the Eucharistic Minister schedule for Christmas.
Karen Denny: The children in Cat Min collected over 1000 cans for the needy of the parish.
One hundred plus kids attended a Mini Retreat on Saturday, December 3rd.
Christmas vacation will start on December 12th with classes resuming on January 8th.
